What Is A Therapist CE Retreat?
A therapist CE retreat is continuing education training held at a destination, with lodging and meals built into the price. You earn hours toward your license renewal, and you get a stretch of days where nobody needs anything from you.
The training topic can be trauma, EMDR, IFS, somatic work, grief, you name it. Most run five to seven days and offer anywhere from nine to twenty-plus CE hours. What separates a retreat from a conference is the pace. Training takes up part of the day, and the rest is yours for the beach, the pool, or the nap you've been putting off since grad school.
What Makes These Therapist Retreats Different?
Every retreat here is one I'd want to go on myself, and I'm picky when I travel. It's not my property, but you're still my guest, and the goal is for you to feel as welcome as you would in my home.
Your comfort is part of the plan
Air conditioning when it's hot and humid, warm and cozy when it isn't. The somatic side of my clinical work taught me to pay attention to how a space feels in your body, because you can't take in much when you're busy being uncomfortable.
The small moments are on purpose
It starts with a cold, fresh drink at the welcome reception and a menu I've gone over in detail with the resort. In Belize it also means a floating sound bath at golden hour and a farewell dinner on the beach, because those are things I'd love as a guest.
You'll know what you're walking into
Every retreat page gets as many real photos as I can post, plus the itinerary, so you can picture yourself there and know the shape of your days before you book. A lot of retreats keep you guessing on both.
Complex topics, made digestible
Training here is pretty laid back. Big, complicated subjects get broken down into pieces you can take in and put to use.
Confidence you can borrow
You don't have to arrive feeling ready for the part that intimidates you. My consultees often tell me they love to borrow my confidence, and that offer stands here too.
Who Are These Retreats For?
Licensed mental health professionals in private practice, including counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and psychologists. Most attendees own their practice or work as 1099 contractors, and they set their own fees. These retreats are for people who care as much about the accommodations, the location, and the experience as they do about the training. If you're looking for a budget way to collect CE hours, this won't be it.
Who Hosts Them?
Jessica Good, MA, LPC. EMDRIA Approved Consultant, Trauma of Money Certified, and a member of the Financial Therapy Association. My private practice is Good EMDR Therapy, and Therapy Is A Business is where I consult with therapists on the business side. I also go on therapist retreats as an attendee, which is where most of these opinions came from.
Therapist Retreat FAQ
Do Therapy Is A Business retreats offer CE hours?
The Money Shift does, with up to 10 CE hours pending approval. Some future retreats will be business focused and may not include CE hours, so each retreat's page says whether it does and how many.
How do I book a therapist retreat?
Each retreat is booked from its own page with a deposit that holds your room. Payment options and deadlines are listed there too.
Can I bring someone who isn't a therapist?
Usually, yes. Guest policies and pricing are on each retreat's page, and guests don't earn CE credit.
Can I come to a therapist retreat alone?
Yes, and most people do. A retreat is one of the easier places to show up solo, because everyone there does the same work you do.
Will there be more therapist retreats?
Yes. New dates and locations are posted on this page first.
