A Money Script Quiz Built For Therapists

So why not send you to a general money script quiz? Because it's not built for you and it may be harder to see yourself, and your practice, in it. This one asks about the moment you say your fee out loud, the unpaid balance you haven't chased, and the offer that's been sitting unfinished for months. The four scripts are the same ones from the research. But the examples come from real life experiences of therapists, not just generic phrases.

Why You Know What To Do And Still Aren't Doing It

Therapists show up with a solid plan all the time. They know the fee they want to charge, they know which panels they want to leave, and they've known for a year. So what's in the way? It usually isn't strategy. It's a money script, which is a belief about money you picked up long before you had a practice, and it gets a vote on every business decision you make. You can have an amazing plan with every step perfectly laid out, but until the money work gets done, nothing happens.

The Four Money Scripts

The research names four money scripts: money avoidance, money worship, money status, and money vigilance. Most people run more than one. The quiz shows you which ones are loudest for you, and the guide walks through what each one costs a practice. For a longer read on where money scripts come from, see Money Scripts and Private Practice.

Money Scripts, Money Mindset, And Scarcity Mindset

You've probably heard this conversation called money mindset, or scarcity mindset versus abundance mindset. Those terms point at something real, but they stop short. "Scarcity mindset" tells you that you're afraid there won't be enough. A money script tells you which belief is underneath that fear, where it likely came from, and what it's doing to your fees. That's the difference between a pep talk and something you can work with. Money scripts come from the financial psychology research of Dr. Brad Klontz and Dr. Ted Klontz, and they're the language I use as a financial therapist, because being told to think more abundantly doesn't tell you what to do when it's time to charge a client.

How The Money Script Quiz Works

There are 24 statements, six for each script, and you rate each one from "Not me at all" to "Very much me." Each script gets a score from 6 to 30. A script starts to count as loud at 16, and the quiz names your highest one, plus any that tie or come in close. It takes less than 5 minutes, your results show up on the screen, and you can have the full guide emailed to you if you want it.

Questions Therapists Ask About Money Scripts

Can my money script change?

Yes. Mine has changed twice. A script is a learned belief, and once you can see it, you can decide what to do with it.

Can I have more than one money script?

Yes, and most people do. That's why the quiz shows all four scores and names a second script when it comes up close.

Is this the Klontz Money Script Inventory?

No. The four scripts come from the research of Dr. Brad Klontz and Dr. Ted Klontz. This quiz is an original reflection tool written for therapists who own a practice, and it's separate from their inventory.

Is this a clinical assessment?

No. It's a business reflection for practice owners, with no clinical or diagnostic use.

What do I do with my result?

Start by noticing where the script shows up this week. The guide walks through what each script costs a practice. And if you want to do the deeper work in a room with other therapists, that's what The Money Shift is for: a CE retreat in Belize, February 21 to 26, 2027, with up to 10 CE hours, pending approval.
